Hello, I'm a french garage owner and the owner of a 1929's Chevrolet convertible, its engine is a 6 cylinders, its code is 194 CID. I have some questions about it, What is the tightening torque of the cylinder head ? Can this motor turn with lead – free petrol ? What type of motor oil has been used in this engine ? I want to pass the electric circuit in 12 volts what is the solution for the light bulbs that have a specific cap on this model. Sorry for the mistakes, and thanks for the upcoming responses. Raymond

Hi Raymond (good name), If you are using the original head bolts I would stop at about 65-70. Your car will run nicely and with-out damage on the unleaded fuel. If you do not have the history of the engine, and do not plan to restore it at this time, you should use a single weight oil and non-detergent. I would discourage you from the 12-volt route, however if you insist, all bulbs will need to be replaced with 12-volt. Other components of your system will suffer damage over time by using the 12-volt. Welcome to our site and return with your questions as you encounter problems.

First of all, thanks for your welcome and your precise responses I still have some questions: I have bought my chevy in 1999, she was white (body) and black at this time, i want to know if these colors are genuine, or have you ever seen this type of chevy and in which colors? I have found in your very useful forum a link which leads to the former associations of colors, but i want to have your mind about it. Finally, do you know through your site an european association or an european part dealer, for the moment I only know 123parts , the site which made me discover this forum. Thanks Raymond

I can't answer your question without further information. Fairly sure white was not an option. Look on the firewall and see if you can locate a tag attached. Copy that information and post it here and we will tell you what it means. Now look on the floor, in front of the drivers seat, on the passenger side for a tag approximately 3 1/2 X 1 3/4. This tag will be nailed to the wood with 4 small nails. Record and post all that information here also.

Be cautious using a detergent oil in the engine if you do not know what oil was used. The detergent will do what it is intended and carry dirt away to where you don't want it. Stick to the NON DETERGENT 30 weight to avoid any problems. I have heard terrible stories of people putting detergent in an old engine and causing engine failure.

raymond, the filling station (fillingstation )has an interesting solution for better headlighting atleast; they sell a 6 volt alternator and halogen headlight bulbs. the rest of your 6 volt stuff will not suffer. jim
