I have a question that has puzzled me on my three window 31 coupefor some time now.

During the restoration, I notice what apears to be some sort of mounting bracket/loop on the front side of the dash panel. It is in the middle on the front side of the dash between it and the front window?
I have seen nothing in pictures which would tell me what was there originally.
Does anyone know what it was and do you have a picture of one.

Puzzled, shocks

Are you talking about the instrument panel mounting brackets that are screwed to the wood cowl cross member that the instrument panel attaches to?

Can you be more specific? ;\) \:D \:D

How about a socket for a rubber bumper. Similar to the ones on the moldings for windows.

Maybe it's for the wire that goes to the interior light.

d2d2 may have something there, but doesn't it mount to the wood cross member?

I guess I need to better explain the location.

The metal loop is part of the whole dash assembly itself. If I would run my finger straight up from the middle of the gauage cluster over the front bash this loop/bracket would be just over the lip edge that catches the air for cooling the car when the window is up.

Or if you opened the fron window and looked in at the middle of the front dash lip you would see this metal bracket. In fact looking in from the front of the window is the only way to see it.

Hope that btter explains it

When asking a question always be as specific as possible so that we will have all of the information needed to answer your question. ;\)

At any rate, the "loop" that is on the center back of the instrument panel, at the top, is for a rubber bumper to be inserted for the windshield glass to rest against as Chipper Dipper mentioned above. \:D \:D \:D \:D
