I've got a 1936 Master glove box door with the flip out (turn out) ash tray and the electric clock. The third option on this door was a cigarette lighter. I have no idea what a lighter looks like or exactly where it should be placed when installed in the door. Can anyone take a few minutes and give me some information on the lighter? A picture would be great: 6cylindersovertex@att.net Thank you!

Hi Joe,

The 36 Master Deluxe Town Sedan that my Dad had and I sold to a club member a few years ago also had the swing out ashtray and clock on the clove box door. The cigar lighter was mounted at the bottom of the dash. It had the mother of pearl finish to match the banjo steering wheel and horn button.

I believe this is correct, at least for his car, because he didn't have to restore the dash at all, it was in great shape.

Hope this helps you out a little.

Thats correct. The lighter mounted on the dash midway between the ign. switch and the glove box door.....still looking for a picture.

I had a picture but can't find it on my computer. I'll keep looking.

If I remember correctly, the lighter was just to the right and slightly below the tuning radio knob. But I'll try and find the photo.

What am I looking at when I see the lighter mounted in the glove box door below the door lock, approximately half way from top to bottom?

Chevrolet never intended for it to be mounted into the door. Not saying it was never done. The description for the lighter in the 1936 accessory booklet says "For installation on instrument panel. Handy for all front seat passengers"
That type of lighter did not go deep into the well. I would suspect it could fall off in closing or opening the glove box door.
