I have a guy from Hawaii who I have spoken with over the phone. He wants to buy a car from me. It has never been titled and he said in order to get the DMV there to let him title it he needs to get the vin/order no. off the car so he can legally get it registered and tiled. Is this correct? Should I send him the info or should I be weary. I mean this guy is in Hawaii..I checked the no. What should I do. What glitters is not always gold. Thanks for any advice.

Hmmm. I have seen things on e-bay with vin numbers and other things of importance. I have seen in Ohio that one guy took his document from his older car and took it to the BMV to get a title. And of course, if you do not have a title, you can apply for one with an inspection from the State. Maybe with all this said, you may be able to get what your needing in your state. Just for him to get a title, does not sound right. I could be wrong. I am a former cop from Ohio and have seen different things happen. I would do more research on that matter. Maybe you can get into the State of Hawaii web site and see what their regs from the Motor Vehicle comes up with. A little cautious is good.

I sold a 36 willys pick up to a guy in Hawaii some years ago & it was a little weird. I had to get a title in Az & then he sent me the money for the truck. At that point I had to send him the information, & I might've sent him the title. He had to show proof of ownership when the ship goes to dock. I wonder if it's the same now. It was the shipping company, not MVD. Most of those car guys in Hawaii are up on the rules.
