I have yet to see any info on how to remove the lock cylinder from the door handle on my 29 Chevy, also where would I find the lock cylinder code on this handle, it is not printed on the face so I am thinking it may be on the side of the cylinder. My ignition key will work on this lock cylinder with a carefull touch, I have read that they are not normally keyed the same, hard to believe though that the key simply works just from being worn out as I have several other same style keys that dont budge either of the cylinders, I supposed they could have been keyed close when new but again hard to believe that Chevrolet would be that irresposible so how about it any comments???? Also how do I remove that darn cylinder

Since I don't have any '29s don't know for sure. The '31 locking handles had the key code number stamped into the diecast shank. It would have been covered by the ferrule when installed. If it has been worn away a good locksmith should be able to profile the lock and make a key. It will be necessary for the cylinder to not be frozen to work.

The cylinder is held in by a small pin near the end of the shank. It can carefully be tapped out to release the lock mechanism.

The handle part is "diecast" which is also commonly called white metal or pot metal. The rest is steel.
