Wondering if anyone has an idea of the best paint, or type of paint, to use... I'd probably be using it to redo to black on my front grille as well... maybe freshen up the derby caps on my rallyes too...

example of the main piece I mean, if clarification is even needed laugh :

A satin black was used. At one time Marson made just such a paint for trim. Not sure if the product is around any more. You may try an auto paint store.

Thanks Chev Nut!

In your opinion, do you think I should work to remove paint from the whole piece or just patch it?

I just looked it up, Marson has become Mar-Hyde from what I can tell, and part of the Bondo family. This is what I came across, look like what you meant?

Also I recall SEM has or had a product for aluminum, I used it on the trim on my 60 Impala and it worked well (prep is key!)

peabody,
Eastwood sells a nice SEM black trim kit designed just for applications like yours.I personally have had great results with SEM paint/finish products.
Like Gene said...the key to quality long lasting results is in the prep work.
The Eastwood kit is #10042Z. 800-345-1178 or eastwoodcm

Wow... can't believe this was so long ago, but I'll gladly revive it! wink

So as far as proper prep etc, you guys mean stripping the current paint, cleansing and using primer, right?

As far as reconditioning interests: obviously I will do any shaping work before any painting, but what about polishing? Just leave the paint area "as is" for adhesion and do the "perma-exposed" spots before paint?

I always wanna make sure my notions are based in good theory!! laugh laugh laugh

Thanks for the leads, the Eastwood kit looks great, now I need the time! :)
