Ok guys another question. Can you get patterns for the wooden frame work for these old cars? I need to replace some of wood behind the drivers door hinge side!

Thanks Steve

I have all the machinery to make the pieces I need. I have built furniture most of my life. I just wanted to save myself some time if I could get patterns. I tried to call Rodman, but have not received a reply. I do appreciate the info. I have a complete woodworking shop and sawmill. The information is great on this site. Everyone is very helpful!!!

Again Thanks Steve

There are no patterns. Rodman does not have any that I know of. He told me why spend the time developing patterns when he can copy the actual wood parts? That is what he does. There are illustrations in some of the parts books but that is as close as you will come.

I too have build furniture and have the woodworking equipment or buddies that have what I don't. All the wood that I have replaced was made from original pieces, pictures (matching the wood to the sheet metal) or just pure guess. Have had to buy a couple of pieces from Jim Rodman when the wood was so bad that I could not figure what the piece looked like. It has worked for me. Rewooded several old Chevys that way.

I,too, have replaced the structural wood in many autos. Just take your time and make the metal skin fit the wood. It is time consuming working with moving parts (Doors)and compound curves but a furniture guy can do it. Keep telling yourself it's a hobby.

I'm at present making a complete new wood frame in air dried english ash the old frame is total rot.
I'm a crane engineer, not a carpenter but I've dabbled!
Some point's I would make that may help.
Take a million measurements, video & photo's before you start. Never! Never think "Oh I can remember that. Measure it & take a photo.
Beware of strange angles, cut in a peculiar way.check & check again. Before you waste expensive hard wood? make the part in cheap pine first, when you get it right use it as a template. There really are some weird angles. You can always heat the workshop with the pine wood afterwards!
I've told everyone that "A laminated frame" is better than solid wood. Honest it's not patched it's laminated??

Hope This Helps.

Well I was able to get all of the wood cut out today and fitted. Piece of cake. Lots of angles and tapers and laminate it all together. Hard part was taking out the old. I am making an extra set so if anyone needs help I can send you a template for what I have made.

Thanks Guys
Steve
