Hi,
I write 1929-31 because I'm still no yet sure of what a year my truck is.
Restoration is well 'en route'.
I have to restaure some wood on the back of the cabin. Does someone know what wood they took?? Is it spruce or pine or oak?
The back of the cabin is covered by a sheet of metal fixed to the wooden back.Is all that original?
The hat of the cabin is no longer there. How was it made?
Wood with? or metal?
If someone has informations or pics... my mail adress is walteneraapt.lu
I wish to you all a Happy New Year.
Marc

The Chevrolet advertised the wood used was "hardwood". That is a wood that sheds its leaves like oak, ash, poplar, maple. It does not include pine, spruce, fir or trees with needles (softwood). Now I will tell you that by far most of the wood was "hardwood" but occasionally some pine or other conifer wood parts are found. Like the floor boards for the 4 cylinders are "hardwood" boards and the 6 cylinders pine or fir plywood. Most of the wood parts supplied today are ash, oak or poplar. I have used all of them plus a few others.

Now to the more difficult question to answer. The '29-'30 cab had a soft top (hat). The '31 and later had metal. The cabs are also different in other ways.

Are the dash instruments round or oval shaped? Do you have a steering wheel with four spokes or three? How wide is the raised moulding on the side of the cowl? Answers to those questions will begin to give us a clue to the year.

Hi Chipper,
Thanks for your informations.
The dash's instruments are oval and the steering has 4 spokes.
If you give me your mail I shall mail a pic, I don't know how to put them here!!
I suppose that at one time my cabin was enlarged.
Marc

Happy New Year and much luck.

Those indicate a '29 truck. I assume it has a six cylinder engine otherwise with a four it will be a '27-'28. My email address is in my profile.

Hello Marc,

I think I would recommend a membership in our club (VCCA) at this stage. Then all sources are open to you and your cars/trucks.

Hi,
A membership in the VCAA would probably be positive, but on the other hand ... as I live in Lux. do you think that it will be an advantage for me?
I remind receiving for some time the publication from the norge club, but I couldn't understand much..

What are after all the conditions for becoming member?
Kind regards
Marc

Hi,

Here is the place to start. APPLICATION FORM
What are the perks?

The VCCA operates as a national organization to produce a monthly magazine, the Generator & Distributor, our award winning magazine that includes articles on restoration techniques, historical reviews, classifieds that include many cars and parts. The G&D is widely known as the best source of information specific to Chevrolet history and enthusiast activities.

Locally, we offer regional activities with groups of our members who have come together to form local "regions" with whom you can join. The regions meet on a varying basis. See if there's a region in your area. You must be a member of the national organization to belong to a local region.

We also host many annual events that as a member you can attend. From national tours to judged national events, there are a multitude of opportunities to take your vintage Chevrolet out and enjoy activities with fellow enthusiasts.

New members will receive a club badge, decal, membership card and a complimentary subscription, Generator and Distributor. Members will be entitled to free classified advertising every month in the G&D. Commercial rates are available to dealers and private individuals.

Sponsoring members may receive a Membership pin for signing up 3 or more.

I agree to your comment about the Norwegian club magazine. It is still written only in Norwegian, but the web site has been improved a lot to cover important information in English.

You will gain more from being a VCCA member. The G&D magazine is very useful. So is the member pages (and the open pages, too)on the Chat, and you get a nice communication and help from a bunch of Chevy fans around thw world. You do not have to have Chevrolets to be a member, only the interest for our brand. Membership, including a valuable monthly magazine is only costing USD 60/year, and as the perfume people say: It's worth it! Or join as lifetime member in one go.

To really get the friendly and exciting feeling, start planning now to join the 100th Anniversary (50th for VCCA) of Chevrolet in Flint in 2011. You'll never regret it, I am sure!

Once a VCCA member you will have access to the Technical Advisor, who should be able to help in your restoration/repairs.

Welcome to the club.
I have been working on my 1930 1 1/2 ton truck it seems like forever.
With the help of Chipper, the JunkYardDogJunkYardDog and others I have had a great membership experience. If you can make it to the 50th in Flint, if it's anything like the 45th in Grand Junction, you wouldn't regret it.
I have some great pictures of my friend Andre's 1931 Canadian Chevy truck cab, which is more like a 1929-30 American truck.
I will get your email address and send it to you.
Here's a link to my page on Stoveboltcm.

My truck had a metal top when I got it but I have replaced it with the correct wood frame.
Good luck with your project and welcome to VCCA.
