well last night we put the windshield in my 41 town sedan boy it what a pain but looked great. this morning my wife went to look at it and told me the car was crying because her new glasses { windshield } were cracked at the center on the lower cowl area ON BOTH windows. I guess I should take the car to the glass shop that made up the windows and let them remove it and reinstall them, does anyone know of what we may of done wrong did we tighten the center bolts to much ;\) or ? or should I just remove both sides and get another set and try again

I would suspect that the glass was a bit too large for the opening. If you get metal to glass contact and a temperature change a crack is sure to happen.

Read the body glass - windshield replacement section in the front of the shop manual. It covers just that problem.

The car is in a heated garage so I know the temp was fine. The rubber gasket is new from Chevys 40s and the glass was cut from a local shop that took my old ones and made them up. I have the car about done and everything is new from the frame up to the headliner. so I think I will call the glass company and see if they can do it later on this winter as I will not be using the car much from now until next May. The complete frame did seem to fit tight but I figured we were not installing it the easy way. Thanks for the info

If the glass is too tight and the garage is heated.....then that is a crack waiting to happen. Sounds like there is a good chance that the glass shop made the new glass a little too big.
