Can anyone recommend a machine shop in California that can rebuild the engine in my '33 Chevy Master? I think I can get the parts from Egge, and others, but I would like to have all the work done by one engine rebuilder.

Also, has anyone tried switching from poured babbit to bearing inserts, and if so, who did the work?

My thanks to Chev Nut for the bearing specs.

What part of CA are you from? I had my 36 engine done in Orange, CA 10+ years ago. Don't remember the name or even know if they are still in business, but can look it up for you if that city is close. BTW, they did a nice job.

There's a company in La Crescenta that does Model A ****'s. I talked to him once and he indicated they would do Chev's. They do inserts and modern seals. I haven't got to the point where I want to rebuild mine yet.

Let us know how you fair there.

Maybe this will help you.

There is a wonderful mechanic & repair shop many O. C. VCCA members have used and recommended called Moyer's. Frank & his Dad own the shop and are both very knowledgeable. Frank does 90% of the work and really knows old Chevy's

I have used them on 2 occasions for my 41. They did great work and a very reasonable price.

I am not sure if they machine parts, but I would respect any recommendations Frank offers.

Moyer's 714-549-8131 {near Newport Fwy. & Dyer}

Best of luck,
Michael41

P.U. Guy. I am in San Luis Obispo but Orange would be OK if I can find the right person to overhaul my 33 Master engine. If you have a name and phone no. or email address please pass it along. Thanks, Gene

Hi Mike41, Thanks for the tip. I called Frank Moyer today and he sounds like the right guy for overhauling my '33 engine. I am showing the car in Avila Beach in October, then I will proceed to pull the engine and trailer it to Orange County in November. Regards, Gene
