Originally it used Type "A". Best replacement is the DEXRON-III & MERCON approved fluid.



PS: Recommend you move this string into the year group.

I am not sure of the exact year of the trans but it is in a 1968 Chev that I bought, I thought maybe all the aluminum powerglides used the same type fluid. Thanks for the info as I did not want to burn it up.
