Hello Guys ,
I have a 1960 sedan ,awaiting restoration, but am looking at importing into Australia ,a R/H drive Blazer (1998-2002) from Japan for the wife.I'm trying to get an idea of the overall size of the vehicle , compared say , to a Nissan SUV. Plenty of big Chevy trucks here ,but I've yet to see a Blazer.
Plus , is there anything I need to lookout for .
I know it doesn't even come close to vintage or classic , but would appreciate any comment.
Xris

In the States this model was known as the S-10 Blazer, the smaller sized model. They only came with 4.3 liter, 190HP V6 engine which has been a very reliable engine. I've driven mine almost 100k miles and it has had its share of issues. Brakes are the most common problem; I've had front pads wear out in as little as 5000 miles of average driving. The calipers tend to sieze up in our snowy and salted road conditions. Lower ball joints are another issue on the 4WD models (they are smaller than the ones used on the 2WD and they are a bugger to change). Changing spark plugs is a challenge...to access #2 plug you have to remove the steering column (on LH steer cars) and remove the left front wheel to get to it! One of the surprising features is the pretty good gas mileage I get...nearly 23mpg on the highway when I take it real easy, or about 20mpg when I tow a small utility trailer. Around town it drops to about 17mpg.
My AC unit died last year, but that's about average life I would guess. The power steering unit is leaking and will be replaced soon.
Generally this model is considered below average in reliability when compared to other small SUVs (but mine is paid for and I'm keeping it until it dies!). You can go to http://www.cars.com and do a search for the particular model and read all the specs, reviews and ratings. Sorry, I wasn't able to find a size comparison to the Nissan.
Good luck!

They also tend to have a lot of eletrical probles, have an expensive fuel pump that usually lasts only a few years (like a $1200 job) and fuel injector problems. I am a Chevrolet fan but would not recommend this truck. I have contact with Chevrolet and GMC truck dealership service departments and see a lot of problems. They engine is about the only good feature.
The S-10 truck is available with either a 4 or V6 engine, the Blazer is the "Sport Utility" and has the V-6 only.
