I've never driven a External band brake, let alone a mechanical brake car.So I was wondering are they any good, since chevy changed them in 1930 to internal drum on all 4 wheels.Should I rebuild as is or is say a 1930's rear brake setup better.

Rebuild as is and keep your car all original. With the proper linings and adjustments your car will stop just fine. \:D \:D \:D

Several years ago the National pre-29 tour was to the top of Pikes Peak. The management was very concerned because almost all the cars only had two wheel brakes, only the 1928s had 4-wheel, and to make matters worse, they almost freaked out because they were external brakes. A quick lesson in the theory that a hot drum EXPANDING increased the brakes rather than brake fade. They were not fully satisfied until we were all down from the peak.

If I had known that growing old would be this much fun---I'd have done it sooner!

That is reassuring news Ray. I still have some issues with the cross shafts binding and that will be the next project here at Poverty Sinks, Texas. right after Income taxes get electronically transported.

Zoomo; I have a couple of 20" disc wheels you can have for your project. No charge, just happy to see them go to good car. I will be driving past Detroit on April 24th, going to our Lower Mi Region,30th annual VCCA swap and sell, in Monroe, Mi. as I hope many people will. Zoomo, send me a private message or email and we will hook up. Regards, GVD
