Contact the Filling Station and talk to Steve Kassis. The last I heard he was going to have the correct belt made I believe. \:D \:D \:D \:D

In the mean time go to your local hardware store and get a 3/4" wide 38" long belt. It will be low "horsepower belt" but will work ok. Last one I bought was ~ $ 4.

The Filling Station also sells a replacement fan belt, but I believe that it is a cogged belt. \:\( \:\( \:\(

Mike,
The topic was "31 fan belt" august 19, 2004. The best belt is the Dayco 24380. I was trying to have the belt remanufactured again without cogs prior to that discussion. The Dayco belt now is a cog and is still available as such. The fractional horsepower belts being sold are used on lawnmowers and other applications etc. http://vccachat.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=001057#000000
PS Larry Jackson several years ago wrote an article in G & D magazine on "Gaining Efficiency from the 1929-34 Water Pump" which is very informative. Does anyone know the issue of this article?

i read the august fan belt posts. only suggestion i'd make is for steve at filling station contact Gary Whitting, the owner of Quanta repos. gary does all the gas tanks and fan belts for the corvette and shoebox chevy people(his repo belts are wrapped and debossed part #'s like originals. they're more than reasonably priced as well,. gary is a real good guy and if he's a dayco distributor, may be reasonable to deal with him. steve can mention my name if he elects to call gary. quanta advertises in hemmings, corvette parts section. good luck, mike

Thanks guys, I see red (NOS?) belts for sale on ebay sometimes, but I think I remember you guys saying the belt should be black; is that right? Any printing differences on the belts?

Black, that is unless you believe the artist enhanced sales literature that shows red fan belt along with red distributor cap.

And....you forgot the red radiator hoses too! ha ha!

Also, an interesting note is that Delco-Remy did have "dark maroon" distributor caps as well as black distributor caps.. \:D \:D \:D

I did not want to increase the discussion to hoses too. Yes the correct caps are dark maroon or oxblood or what ever name you apply to the dark red color. The black caps are later replacement. Yes they come from GM or Chevy packages but are still NORS! which some call NOS because they are in GM part packaging.

I hope you are satisfied doggie now you have pushed the discussion way off topic. Go bury a bone somewhere else!

It has Delco Remy logo on the inside. There at least three other manufacturers for the cap. One has a clover leaf design logo inside. One just a number or two (probably a mold number). I did not look at my stock but can if necessary. I have original coil, distributor cap, spark plugs, wire ends and old stock Packard wire on the '31 fire truck. No one has ever commented on it at a VCCA event. That leads me to believe that they don't know what they are seeing.

the dist. cap i'm sitting here looking at has nothing embossed on the external surface, just a 1 embossed on the inside of the cap, between adjacent brass terminals. the 6 terminals and the central contact point look way too new for a 50k mile six banger. probably replaced years ago. Tell me about original coils as that's where i'm heading next on re-assembly. also does the original plug wire from Packard have any mfgr logos stamped on them? i always make up my plug wires from old stock Packard 440 solid core wires for the corvettes as the carbon core repo wires have a half life of that horse flies---one or two removals from spark plugs of repo wire and they are history. had local stamp shop make me up stamps for the home made vette plug wires which pass NCRS judging. if the 31 plug wires were stamped with delco or similar stamping, could perhaps get stamp made to duplicate them. mike

Hey Chipper Dipper Doodle:

Quote: ".....sales literature that shows red fan belt along with RED DISTRIBUTOR CAP."

It wasn't the old mutt that "pushed the discussion way off topic".....it was you with your red cap thing! I think that you really need to see your neighborhood "quack" because you obviously either have Alzheimers or CRS and you don't seem to be aware of it!
Fortunately, that is one disease that us old dogs can't get because it is a human thing.
