The Apache will have the standard 235 Thriftmaster engine (if its a 6 cyl).....

Thanks Chevgene, I'm obviously a rookie, and not much of a mechanic. I'll probably have a lot more questions. Dale

The Thriftmaster is a 235 and the Jobmaster is a 261... correct??

How about the carburetor.... Did both have a single barrel carb??

Just curious; just going to 'school.'

Bill.

Bill,
That was correct for 1958...actually 1955and up. In 1954 the larger trucks with a 235 had a Loadmaster engine, smaller Thriftmaster and optional 261 was the Jobmaster.
The 261 had the same basic head and manifolds but the throttle bore in the carb. was larger.

Thanks Gene. Lots of "work" like names: Loadmaster, Thriftmaster, Jobmaster. Interesting....

Bill.

The the 8 cylinders came along with Taskmaster, Turbo-fire, Super Turbo fire, Trademaster,Super Trademaster, Workmaster, and Loadmaster 322 (Buick)...may have missed some.

Thanks for the lesson Gene. It's good that you remember all those names. That way I don't have to!

new here, I just had a 58 apache hauled to me from the crusher, motor free, very rusty 1/2ton shortbed, looks all original and complete drivetrain, after market wheel I put on to roll it on flatbed. Don't know what I will do with it yet. have others in the 66 range I'am working on at present just could not see it crushed. Don
