I just got my car back from the body guy. The body and paint looks good. However, we both commented on the right rear fender. I replaced the badly dented fender with a fender that was supposed to be off of a '41 5-passenger Coupe. It sure looked the same. The body guy just closed the rear hole on the fender, since my car is a business coupe, and the gas cap is on the side of the car in front of the rear fender.
Now, it just doesn't seem to fit really snug up to the body. The welding just doesn't fit tight in the crack. It has about a 1/4" and goes to about a 3/8" gap on the front half of the fender. Could this fender be from a sedan??? Maybe not a '41 fender??? The inside bolts are as tight as they can be tightened. What could be the problem??? Help.

The 1941-1948 rear fenders all fit up to the body the same. The only difference is the business coupe did not have the filler neck hole.
Either the fender or the body is distorted ffrom previous repairs.
Note that the curve on top of the fender sits about 3/4" inch below the curve of the body. When fender is correctly installed it will look as if its too low . There should be no gaps in the front unless the fender is mounted too high and done so in an attempt to match the body line.

Gene: Thanks for the help. I will take an even closer look. That fender was badly dented at some time. Thanks, again.

Dan,
Your welcome....you sure have been fighting some battles with that car. I can give you a lot of credit for that.
