The button assembly consists of three parts, wire, rubber and metal cap. The wire fits into a groove in the rubber and cap fits over it. The edge of the rubber fits into a depression in the side of the metal cup in the center of the wheel. The wire legs contact a brass plate on the upper steering column bushing when the button is pushed. The brass plate has a wire attached that feeds through a hole in the column tube just above the gearbox. A connector attaches to the ground wire from the horn. When the button is pushed it completes the ground for the horn and it makes noise. That is if the horn is properly adjusted.

Also, the "S" wire of the horn button assembly must be bent at the proper configuration to gain the correct tension so that the horn button will work properly when depressed. There is a section in the April, 1930 Chevrolet Service News that tells you how to perform the proper procedure. The complete set of 1930 service news is available from the Filling Station in Lebanon, Oregon. \:D \:D \:D \:D
