When installing the floor pans, cabin, trunk floor and tool tray, does one run a bead of sealer along the perimeter under the pan before srewing and nailing it or does one put the pan down and paint (smear) the sealer over the edge like it appears to have been done at the factory?

Landman, On my two 34 town sedans, there is no sealer between the metal and wood; however, there is a thin layer of a tar-like substance on the floor of the trunk under the floor linning.

I saw what must have been a remnant of that stuff on my pans. However after 50+ years out in the weather, there wasn't much of it left.
