A little learning is a dangerous thing; Drink deep, or taste not the
Pierian spring. There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
and drinking largely sobers us again

I am pretty sure your stock carb would be an updraft Carter RXO for the truck. They are available, but not cheap.

There is not a lot of literature that I am aware of on these trucks. They are for the most part very similar to the cars of the same year, in this time period. Parts Books for the 4 cylinder era will help (eBay), as will the Repair Manual, although it doesn't have near the detail or illustrations of later years. 'The Filling Station' does offer a reprint of the Shop Manual for the 25-26 truck for $12. http://www.fillingstation.com

I have no idea what would be correct for your truck's springs.

And don't feel dumb. Nobody ever started into this knowing what they need to know - or else they probably wouldn't have started. Ha! And for what it's worth to you, at 65 you are a relative youngster in this crowd.

You will probably find this Chat Site to be one of your best resources. When you run into a specific question, post it. Ususally, you will have an answer within a day. Many of the people who post here on a regular basis also supply parts - as a hobby or sideline business - and there is a strong community of 4 Cylincer era people that are very active in the VCCA. They are happy to direct you to sources for parts or services or knowledge. Good luck!

Most of the truck components for serious hauling were only the basic ones built by Chevy; overloads were offered from many supplies such as "Maremont Automotive Products" from Chicago and were Dealer installed or the Chassis taken to the supplier for installation. If the added part is for the correct year and was not offered by Chevrolet then you should not be penalized for it unless it it is in poor condition. It would help if you had some of the original supplier literature. I have a book for the 34-35 trucks that Chevrolet published for the Dealers showing a lot of the suppliers of components and bodies for Chevrolet trucks.

Thanks for the info all. the overloads look good just rusty like old leaf springs, what they did was separate the springs with a block of wood then shackle both springs together then they used a 4 inch peace of metal strap "U shaped" for the upper rub points. The U strap is mounted on 4 X 5 cross peaces then the flat bed deck. one reason I think that they did this was because the loaded bed crushed the rear fenders. couple of odd fender parts from the running board to the cross 4x5 on the back of the foward one and a cloth mud flap off the back of the next 4x5 the bed is extended to a full 8 foot. If I knew how I would put a pic or two here but at this time I only know how to Pm them.
