Greetings,

I finally acquired our library's 1955 Bookmobile, a chassis-cab unit with book box built by the Rock Hill Body Company, of Rock Hill, SC. It was put in long-term dry storage in 1991, and won't require much to get back on the road.

Plans are to have it finished by next summer for the library's 100th anniversary. We're going to fill it with 1955 and earlier books, plus a small travelling automotive reference center. It's a bone-stock 3600, 3/4 ton, 123.25" Whb, with radio delete, heater, 3 on the tree, and the book box interior is in remarkably good condition.

It's going to be a blast to put this time-capsule back into operation!

TG
(Rather than Grease Monkey, I prefer the title Garage Monkey...much more appropriate!)

Nice truck and good luck on the project. If you keep talking on Chevy Chatter you won't be a Grease Monkey very long. After you submit a few posts it will change...Oscar ;\)

Thanks y'all,

It won't take long to upgrade the title ;)...here are a couple of postcards of other bookmobiles that I found. They were built by Gerstenslager of Wooster, OH, and the one from Greenville was used about 30 miles from here.

BTW, have you discovered http://www.coachbuilt.com? They have an incredible compilation of body manufacturers covering all aspects. I think they're going to publish an encyclopedia eventually. Very cool.

Those trucks certainly look good. Especially the first.
