Can anyone tell me what is the correct finish on a Trico wiper motor for a 1931 roadster.
One source says chrome and another source said black.
Thanks Clif

The 1931 Roadster used a chrome finish on the wiper motor matching the windshield frame. Earlier models and trucks used the black finished motor mounted to the windshield frame. Closed cars (exc. Landau Phaeton and Cabriolet) used a black motor mounted to a bracket just above the windshield.

Thanks for the info Chipper.
I did do a search before posting, but did not find anything on open cars, I'm going to go back and look again.

The best place to check first is in the parts books. Then check sales literature, repair manuals and look at photos. Try to have at least three references that concur before being confident in the answer. Many times that is not possible. The parts books are the most accurate but have some errors in them or lead you to the wrong conclusions. An example is with fuel lines. The books list copper but as far as I have been able to document Chevrolet never used copper fuel lines in production. Early cars had brass and later steel. Flexible lines were used when flexible motor mounts caused problems with rigid lines.

It's not special. You can purchase the copper tubing by the foot at a hardware store or an auto supply store. However, you will have to bend it to fit.

I agree Chipper,
I looked at my Chevrolet parts CD and could not even find a listing for the 31 wiper ( I need to invest in the book ). I then looked at pictures to no avail. I then called a prominent 1931 roadster restorer and he swears he has pictures of roadsters with black wiper motors. I also called the wiper man and another gentleman that specializes in 1931 parts, both of them said chrome.
I then did a search here for roadster wiper motors and only found closed cars, landau phaetons and cabriolets. With your opinion being chrome also and my thinking if nothing else it would look better chrome with the chrome windshield, then chrome it shall be.
Thanks for all the help guys.
