I cannot seem to track down or locate what is creating the strong fuel smell from my car. Here is what I am noticing, after I drive the car and put it back in the garage the odor is strongest by the filler neck (vent I am guessing) after a while the odor is in the engine compartment. Any sage advice as to what I should look at or diagnose to find the issue. Its a all stock Yeoman. Thanks in advance for any help.

I suspect you are smelling the vaporization of our current good smelling gas. You smell it at the rear from the vent. From the front it is the gas percolating in the carburetor bowl.

If I had known that growing old would be this much fun---I'd have done it sooner!

Both the gas cap and the carburetor bowl are vented to the outside air.
It may be a good move to place the car on a hoist and look for wet spots (gas) around the fuel lines, gas tank, and fuel pump.

On my vented cars 28, 53, and 68 I have less fuel odor feom the fuel tank if it is 3/4 full than 1/4 or 1/8 tank I do like to drive a few miles after topping the tank off and do not fill above where the self service pump kicks off, to keep the expansion of the fuel from overflowing. I attribute this to the fact that there is less surface area to vapoize, just my opinion. Many of my friends don't like to haul a car with a full tank in a covered trailer, but my theory is there is less sloshing around if the tank is near full.
CRAZY?

i have been all over those areas and cannot find any glaring trouble spots (or any spots for that matter). This is our firts old car and I guess I am just not used to the things that come with a non fuel injected car.
